Replicas of 17 different kinds of navigation markers
from the golden age of archipelago seafaring (1842-
1891) have been re-erected by volunteers. The original
navigation markers were predominantly located in the
southern section of the Archipelago of Turku. The
replicas have been located in such a way that leisure
boaters can get a flavour of the cultural history of the
archipelago as they pass through the Museum Passage.
The navigation markers also direct light marine traffic
away from international shipping channels.
